The Flutters Bingo Hall, a.k.a. The Regent, has long been a meeting place for bingo lovers and community residents in the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough for years, however recent plans have surfaced that may leave this community without its much-loved cinema turned bingo hall.

The plan comes from an un-elected delegation, but soon after the public got wind of the committee’s intention they had something to say about it. The building was slated to be knocked down to make way for a supermarket car park. Instead, the plan will now go before the borough’s planning committee in public, where community members may take it upon themselves to save the landmark.

More than 1,000 individuals have already joined a Facebook group in favor of keeping the bingo hall intact, but residents fear it will take more than that to sway the committee’s decision.
Peter Lea, supporter of saving the hall and owner of PCL Cinema and Leisure Services, stated, “It would be such a shame to see it go. It’s an asset to the town – the cinema could be reinstated but there is all sorts of things that it could be used for. To see it as a car park would just be awful – it’s a fantastic bit of history.” Lea has written a book that is forthcoming in 2014 which details the history of cinemas located in Hinckley, Nuneaton, Atherstone and the surrounding areas.

Councillor Stuart Bray urged residents to consider that the building already has permission to be felled and that, “It will require someone to come forward to buy it to save it. There’s nothing the council can do. “
