The D Las Vegas Casino Hotel and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino, located in downtown Las Vegas, are poised to become the world’s first properties in the Vegas gaming industry to accept the virtual currency, Bitcoin.

The currency will be accepted from guests at a total of five locations, including restaurants and hotel gift shops. All payments will be processed with Bitpay, a tablet and mobile interface service that streamlines transactions. The currency is stored in electronic wallets that belong to customers and each cashier at these locations will have terminals for easy payment using Bitcoin currency.
In a clear case of customer demand, the decision to accept Bitcoin came after several patrons in the D Casino’s watering hole, the LONGBAR, approached employees and asked if the virtual currency was accepted.

Co-owner and CEO of the D and Golden Gate, Derek Stevens had this to say when questioned about the decision, “I’m proud that the D and Golden Gate will be the first casino properties to accept Bitcoin. We’re located in the growing high-tech sector of downtown Las Vegas, and like all things downtown, we’re quickly adaptive to new technology. The timing is right for us to launch this initiative, and I’m happy to be able to offer this to our customers.”

With the growing popularity of the infamous currency and increasing demand for its mainstream use, we can undoubtedly expect to see more retail and entertainment venues accepting Bitcoin transactions in the future.
