Brazil vs. Germany

FIFA World Cup / 08 July 2014, 20:00

The first World Cup semi-final will see Germany try and defeat host nation Brazil in Belo Horizonte on Tuesday, 8 July.

After suffering a spine injury in his last match Brazil’s star Neymar will not be able to play in this semi-final and this is sure to make the team nervous. However, Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is capable of coming up with a strong game plan and despite Neymar’s celebrity, the team can play well without him.

Instead Brazil will rely on Hulk, Jo and Fred to lead the team and attack Germany. Furthermore centre back David Luiz has proved a very adept goal scorer in this tournament and as long as the team don’t panic, they should be able to give the Germans a very good fight.

Germany has always been one of the favourites to win the tournament and they put in an excellent performance against France to reach the semi-final. There has been some criticism that the team is slow and dull to watch; however, most agree that they are more than capable of rising to the occasion. This is Germany’s fourth successive World Cup semi-final and the team is without any suspensions or injuries.

The teams have met a few times over the last few years. They last played in August 2011 and Germany won 3-2, before that they played in June 2005 when Brazil won by the same score line. They last met in the World Cup in 2002 when Brazil won 2-0.

Both the teams are fantastic, but the real question is how Brazil will cope without Neymar and whether the home crowd support will be enough to overcome this loss.
