Novak Djokovic vs. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

ATP World Tour / 30 June 2014, 13:00

Novak Djokovic will play Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the fourth round of Wimbledon on Monday, 30 June.

The two recently met at the ATP French Open and Djokovic made light work of Tsonga winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-1. They have a long history of playing each other and Djokovic has won 12 of their last 18 matches. Tsonga last won in the 2011 Paris Masters and since then the two have met eight times.

However, Djokavic caused a scare in the last round of Wimbledon in his match against Gilles Simon. He fell on his shoulder and looked to be in a great deal of pain. Nonetheless, he managed to finish the match and won quite easily in three sets. Djokovic isn’t at his best, but he has still won nine of his first ten sets in the tournament. Furthermore, he has reached numerous finals this year including the Rome Masters and the French Open.

Tsonga came through the last round with an easy win over Jimmy Wang in three sets. However, his first two matches in the tournament were decided in five sets which may have left him feeling a bit drained. Tsonga has regularly made the quarter finals at Wimbledon but in the last few Grand Slams he has been knocked out in the fourth or fifth round. His best result this year was reaching the quarter-finals of the ATP Monte Carlo Masters.

If Tsonga plays his best and Djokovic isn’t at his, then this match has the potential to be extremely close.
