St Helens vs. Widnes Vikings

St Helens is hosting the Widnes Vikings in Merseyside for round 22 of the Super League on Friday, 25th July.

The Vikings have won the last two games against St Helens, 40 – 26 in April 2014 and 35 – 28 in May 2013. St Helens won 16 – 4 in February 2013 and 34 – 23 in July 2012 and the Vikings won 26 – 24 back in June 2012.

St Helens are currently leading the league with 32 points after winning 16 games and losing 5. They currently have a two point lead over the Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos and will be looking to extend this and solidify their position.

The Widnes Vikings are a fair way behind in eighth position with 21 points having won 10 games, drawn 1 and lost 10. They have a safe 3 point lead over the Hull Kingston Rovers and are trailing the Catalan Dragons by 2 points. Considering their recent track record against St Helens, the Vikings are sure to be hoping to claim a few more points in this match and possibly climb the table.

St Helens won their last two games, 58 – 16 against the London Broncos and 46 – 22 against the Bradford Bulls. At the beginning of July the team lost 40 – 10 to the Hull Kingston Rovers but won their two matches before 16 – 12 against the Wigan Warriors and 38 – 16 against the Castleford Tigers.

The Widnes Vikings beat the Warrington Wolves 28 – 14 last week but before that lost two games in a row, 12 – 10 to the Wakefield Wildcats and 40 – 20 to the Castleford Tigers. At the end of June the team beat the London Broncos 42 – 12.
