Wakefield Wildcats vs. Widnes Vikings

Rugby League / 10 July 2014, 19:00

The Wakefield Wildcats meet the Widnes Vikings in the next round of the Super League on Thursday, 10th July.

Over the last two years the Wakefield Wildcats have won all five matches against the Vikings. The closest result was in April 2013 when the Wildcats won 28 – 26 while their last game in May 2014 ended 24 – 18.

The Wakefield Wildcats are currently eleventh in the league with 15 points having won 7 games, drawn 1 and lost 11. They are tied on points with Hull FC and only one point behind the Hull Kingston Rovers so this match gives them the chance to get ahead.

The Widnes Vikings are actually higher in the table. They are eighth with 19 points having won 9 games, drawn 1 and lost 9. The Vikings are tied for points with the Catalan Dragons and have a safe lead over the Hull Kingston Rovers so this match is also a great chance for them to climb.

Despite their higher ranking the Vikings have only won one of their last five games. That was against the London Broncos at the end of last month. Last week they lost 40 – 20 to the Castleford Tigers and earlier in June they lost to the Leeds Rhinos, the Wigan Warriors and Hull FC.

The Wildcats are having quite a good run. They won last week against the Leeds Rhinos 16 – 14. This was preceded by a 20 – 20 draw with Hull FC and wins over the Wigan Warriors and the London Broncos. Their last loss was at the beginning of June against the Bradford Bulls.
