Widnes Vikings vs. Castleford Tigers

Rugby League / 03 July 2014, 14:00

The Castleford Tigers will travel to Widnes this week to play the Vikings in the next round of the Super League on Thursday, 3 July.

The Tigers have been dominating over the Vikings in recent times. Earlier this year they won 34 – 22 while last year saw two victories, 42 – 38 and 28 – 26. The Vikings last beat the Tigers in 2012 when they won 40 – 10.

At present the Castleford Tigers are fourth in the league with 24 points having won 12 games and lost 6. They are tied for points with the Wigan Warriors and the Huddersfield Giants so a win could see them move up the rankings. Of course, a loss will most likely see them to slip a place or two.

The Vikings are eighth in the league with 19 points having won 9 games, drawn 1 and lost 8. They are also tied for points, with the Catalan Dragons, so a win for them is essential. On the other hand they have a safe lead over the Hull Kingston Rovers so a loss is unlikely to see them drop any further.

The Vikings won their last game which was against the London Broncos 42 – 24.However, before that they lost three consecutive games, against Hull FC, the Wigan Warriors and the Leeds Rhinos. At the end of May the team did manage a 26 – 26 draw with the Catalan Dragons.

The Castleford Tigers are coming to this match with a similar record. Most recently they beat the Salford Red Devils 14 – 10 but before that lost to St Helens and the Wigan Warriors. However, at the beginning of June the team did beat the Hull Kingston Rovers 54 – 12.
