A staggering 1,095 players turned up for the event leaving a near record breaking prize pool of €1,051,200 ripe for the picking. The event spanned five days and drew a lot of attention from both international players and fans.

The final day of the tournament began with eight players left standing, or sitting if we’re speaking literally. It would be the only non-Frenchman at the table, Niels Van Leeuwen, who’d rise to the challenge and secure the top spot.

At the time the final game commenced Leeuwen sat in 3rd trailing Jean-Paul Vasseur and Christophe Leroux, who were 1st and 2nd respectively.

Leeuwen initially lost his footing with a 10/10 hand against 6th place chip holder Erwann Pecheux’s A/Q. However, falling to short stack didn’t get him down. He pulled the same upset against Christophe Leroux, who finished in 5th overall with €45,000, A/10 over A/9.

Van Leeuwen subsequently knocked out 3rd and 4th place finishers Yehoram Houri and Corentin Ropert before going head’s up against Jean-Paul Vasseur with an unfavorable 5 million chip spread. And A/A all-in quickly changed that and Leeuwen made short work of Vasseur with an A/7 pre-flop push against K/K.

Vasseur’s €115,000 winnings certainly helped soften the blow to his ego, while Leeuwen pocketed the €175,000 prize and title of FPS Champion.
