European Poker Awards Praise Some of the Sport’s Best

This year’s European Poker Awards event took place during the EPT Deauville Poker Festival in France. Top honors in live and online play went to Ole Schemion and Toby Lewis respectively. Adrian Mateos Diaz took the honor of Rookie of the Year during the event as well.

Award recipients included some of the most notable players in the European circuit.

Best Tournament Performance: Philipp Gruissem (Germany)
Female Poker Player of the Year: Ana Marquez (Spain)
European Internet Poker Player of the Year: Toby Lewis (United Kingdom)
Poker Industry Person of the Year: Neil Johnson (United Kingdom)
European Poker Event of the Year: Galway Festival (Ireland)
Jury Prize: The Poker Dealers of Europe
Rob Gardner Memorial Award for the Poker Personality of 2013: Roger Hairabedian (France)
Lifetime Achievement Award: Barny Boatman (United Kingdom)

However, players weren’t the only recipients of awards at the event. Industry execs and organizers too received their share of praise.

The lifetime achievement recipient, Barny Boatman was especially happy to be recognized by the awards jury. Boatman’s contribution to the UK poker scene is undeniable and his many brushes with first-place glory left him humbled but in good spirits time and again, until finally he was able to clench a title at Event #59 in the WSOP last summer, leaving the table with a hefty sum of $546,080.
