An American professional poker player, Yevgeniy Timoshenko beat out the biggest field the event has ever seen to win a grand prize pot worth $2 million AUD.

The 2014 Aussie Millions Super High Roller event saw a record 76 entrants who bought in to the game for a whopping $100,000 each. This shattered last year’s turnout of 22 players. Following his big win, Timoshenko is ranked 21st in the Player of the Year standings and has bumped his lifetime live tournament winnings to $6.8 million.

The final table of the event featured several of the professional poker elite with Daniel Negreanu, who finished 6th  with $550,000AUD, 5th place finisher Patrik Antonius who walked away with $700,000, the event’s 4th place finisher Doug Polk who brought in $860,000 and Erik Seidel, the 3rd finalist with $1,076,000 in earnings.

The heads-up round pitted Timoshenko together with Mike McDonald, runner-up in this year’s Caribbean Adventure event.

In the beginning, the two met with a relatively close chip count, but Timoshenko quickly pulled ahead with a 4-to-1 lead. Things finished shortly after that as Timoshenko was able to easily bully an all-in from McDonald. Against Timoshenko’s simple Kd/Qs, McDonald just couldn’t catch a break with a 10h/7h. 6s/5c/2d flop, 8d turn and 3h river cars, in the end Timoshenko’s King high sealed the fate of McDonald. The runner-up took home a consolation prize for $1.5 million for his efforts.
