Introduced in 2011, the $250k Aussie Millions event promises a massive payout to the winner of the challenge. This year’s game drew some of the biggest names in poker to the tables. Offering an unlimited number of entries, the tables drew in twice the turnout for the same event last year with a total of 46 entrants.

Claiming his second win in this event after his 2012 victory, Phil Ivey took home nearly $4 million. The win has propelled Ivey’s career winnings to more than $20 million. Defending his reputation as a premier poker player, Ivey bested players like Issac Haxton, who finished 2nd ($2.82 million) in the event just before Mike McDonald fell in 3rd ($1.9 million). Daniel Negreanu took the 4th ($1.25 million) place position, while Fabian Quoss and Tom Dwan finished in 5th ($800,000) and 6th ($500,000) respectively.

Second place didn’t dismay Haxton entirely. His finishing rank left him with high spirits and a near $3 million consolation. He was however reported to have invested over $1 million overall in Aussie Millions events with six re-entries into the $100k event and two in the $250k Challenge.

Taking place between late January and early February, this year’s Aussie Millions Poker Championship featured Hold’Em and Omaha games with buy-ins from $1,100 – $250,000.
