Last week the WPT Fallsview Poker tournament kicked off in fine fashion, with Mike Leah emerging as victor in the opening event and taking home more than $100,000.

The $1,100 No-Limit Hold’Em event was Leah’s second win of six-figures in cold hard cash of 2014. His first came after the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’Em PokerStars Caribbean Tour Event he secured earlier this year.

This was the first WPT Fallsview event in five years. 600 vouchers were distributed to fill seats at the events, however reports quickly circulated that several of these were sold off and scalped at huge markups, reaching as high as $1,800 per ticket.

Day 2 saw the return of 81 surviving players where Leah held a favorable stack of 185,000 in chips. In day 3 he’d made it past the top 72 to guarantee finishing in-the-money. Leah would go on to the final table as second in chips with a stack of 1.46m.

Play continued for hours without Leah winning a single hand and things looked bleak for a time. However, two come ups with pocket 9’s and later pocket A’s quickly changed the face of the game.

Leah emerged 1st overall with $118,982 ahead of Geoffrey McNeely who finished 2nd with $83,413 and Thomas Manuge who fell in 3rd for $53,636.
