Last week saw an action packed start to the new season of the Premier League and over the coming weekend a number of other European leagues are due to begin their seasons.

Saturday saw a dramatic clash between Tottenham and West Ham which ended with an injury-time winner for Tottenham from Eric Dier. It was Dier’s debut for the team after a summer move from Sporting Lisbon and resulted in the visitors winning 1 – 0 and snatching 3 points.

The same day saw Leicester’s return to the Premier League begin with a 2 – 2 draw against Everton. Everton went into an early lead but Leicester’s Nigel Pearson soon equalised. Everton once again took the lead before half time but Chris Wood ensured the match ended in a draw.

Things didn’t go quite as well for Manchester United who lost 2 – 1 at home to Swansea City. Swansea led at half-time but Wayne Rooney equalised in sensational style. However, Gylfi Sigurdsson once again gave Swansea the lead and ensured their victory.

The coming weekend promises to provide even more action for football fans. La Liga kicks off with Sevilla vs. Valencia, the Bundesliga begins with Beyern Munich vs Wolfsburg and Ligue 1 begins with Evian vs Paris St-Germain.
