This week’s football saw Chelsea beat Arsenal yet again and Barcelona and Real Madrid put on excellent displays.

Chelsea secured their spot at the top of the Premier League beating Arsenal 2 – 0 thanks to goals from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa. Also in the Premier League Southampton suffered their first defeat of the season losing 1 – 0 to Tottenham. This allowed Manchester City to move into second place after beating Aston Villa 2 – 0.

In Spain Barcelona became the first team to go seven games without defeat thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Neymar which gave them a 2 – 0 victory over Rayo Vallecano. Champions Atletico Madrid were beaten 3 – 1 by Valencia while Real Madrid thrashed Athletic Bilbao 5 – 0 thanks to a hat trick from Cristiano Ronaldo. It was Ronaldo’s third hat trick of the season and took his goal tally to 13 in six games.

In Italy Juventus beat AS Roma 3 – 2 to go three points clear at the top of Serie A while Sampdoria beat Atalanta 1 – 0 and Udinese drew 1 – 1 with Cesena.

In Germany Bayern Munich beat Hanover 4 – 0 to move four points clear at the top of the Bundesliga. Borussia Moenchengladback dropped from second to third after they drew 1 – 1 with Mainz 05. Hoffenheim moved into second place on goal difference after beating Schalke 04 2 – 1.
