Bosnia and Herzegovina Aim for First Time Glory

📅08 May 2014, 08:05

This is the first time that Bosnia and Herzegovina have ever qualified for the World Cup and are generally lacking in major tournament experience. However, it is a talented squad with some real stars on the team who play in the world’s biggest leagues. The team has a good draw in the World Cup with matches against teams such as Iran and Nigeria. While there is no guarantee the team will make it out of the group stage, it doesn’t look to be impossible.

Style

Under coach Safet Susic the team plays in either 4-1-3-2 or 4-2-3-1 formations. The team is mainly built around two star players, Miralem Pjanic and Sejad Salihovic who have very different styles of play. Pjanic is an excellent dribbler and also shoots well from range while Salihovic prefers to pass the ball.

Strengths

Bosnia took the world by surprise in qualifying matches when it scored more than three goals in over half of its matches and never conceded more than once. The team has two excellent goal scorers and the midfield is also fairly impressive. The team has shown that it is excellent at protecting leads and also has no problem coming back from behind.

Weaknesses

The team’s defence is a real weak spot, especially from close range. It performs inconsistently and regularly allows in goals from the 6 yard box. Furthermore, the team’s attack is really lacking in variety, this is partly due to a lack of personnel. Three players scored 77% of the team’s goals which means that any injuries or suspensions could prove extremely costly.
