Goals make all the difference during the World Cup, especially during the Group Stage where goals scored can make all the difference between progressing and going home disappointed. With that said, here’s a brief overview of some of the world’s top strikers.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

Having just won the Champions League, Ronaldo will be desperate to show off his ability at the World Cup. While Ronaldo is a fantastic forward he will need to lead the team and make them work as a whole. If he manages this then there’s no telling how well he’ll perform.

Lionel Messi (Argentina)

It’s been a difficult year for Messi after being plagued with injuries throughout 2013. However, he did score 28 goals in 29 La Liga games last season and if he stays in form for the World Cup he is a real threat to every single team in the competition.

Luis Suarez (Uruguay)

Last season Suarez demonstrated that he is capable of deciding games single-handedly. He scored 31 goals in the Premier League and earned the European Golden Boot. Suarez is central to his team’s chances of progressing past the first round, but with a knee injury hanging over him it remains to be seen if he can fulfill his potential at the World Cup.

Neymar da Silva Santos (Brazil)

Neymar will be under huge amounts of pressure at the World Cup as the host nation’s star player. At the last Confederations Cup he demonstrated that he is capable of thriving under pressure. However, an injury in the New Year has disrupted his performance and he has not yet returned to full capacity.
